What Stove
for Summer?
Nothing adds to kitchen
convenience in summer weather
like a New Perfection" Wick
Blue Flame Oil Cook-Stove.
Anything that any stove can
do the "New Perfection" will
do, and do it better. Bakes,
roasts, boils, toasts; heats the wash water and the lad
irons, and does it without dissipating its heat through the room
to your discomfort. The
NEW PERFECTION
Wick Blue Flame Oil Cook-Stove
actually keeps the kitchen cool actually makes it comfortable
for you while doing the family cooking, because, unlike the coal
range, its heat is directed to one point only right under the
kettle. Made in three sizes, fully warranted. If not

ASHLAND WENT,
FOR APPROPRIATION o
SEVEN TO ONE
An Ashland graduate of tho Uni
versity, In writing to The Guard on
business matters, writes as follows
concerning the way In which Ashland
and Southern Oregon stood by the
University by voting for the appro
priation:
"1 want to take occasion to call
yoiir'attentlon for just a moment to
a little thing which showed up quite
nicely on the University of Oregon
appropriation vote down here last
Monday. J)own here In Southern
Oregon we have our own school, of
which we are quite proud, and being
close tothe state line we are almost
as near "and we hear fully as much
about the two big universities of our
California neighbors. Nevertheless,
there was no more popular measure
during the election in our city than
the University measure supporting
the University of Oregon. When the
vote was counted,, Ashland turned
out 7 to 1 in favor of the University.
"ill comparing this showing with
the showing made by some other
counties north of Lane where they
have their 'own schools' as well, it
looks very good for this corner of the
state, and the University people in
this section are very much pleased
with the showing. It indicates, does
it not, that our people here are not
altogether of the small type?
"We are all very glad to learn
that the University appropriation is
safe, and shall look forward with
pleasure to the upbuilding of that in
stitution, which should now come by
leaps and bounds- The old Oregon
spirit still hangs with those who have
left the University campus long ago.
and we are as much Interested as ever
that the present student body and
the coming ones should have a good
representation from Southern Ore
gon."

eral games are scheduled for the sea
son. A good line-up with the excep
tion of one of two places has been se
cured and a good article of ball is
promised the fans during the next
few months. It is hoped that within
another week the team will be thor
oughly organized, and the boys will
be ready for daily practice. They
will go to Coburg to meet the Giants
next Sunday, and the following Sun
day, June 14, a gnme will probably
be played with Lebanon on the local
grounds, as they are making a tour
of this territory and have asked -for
a game.
Jim Stewart returned to Spring
field Tuesday from a visit to Klam
ath Falls. He reports Mr. and Mis.
L. Jacobs, who were formerly in bus
iness In Springfield, as doing well
there and says that they have let the
contract for a fine two-story brick
which will be G0x-00 feet in dimen
sions. We are informed that Mr. and
Mrs. Stewart will soon go to Klamath
to permanently locate. Jim thinks
that there is a great future for that
country.
Dr. VanValzah brought a sample of
his alfalfa to town this morning
which Is about thirty Inches tail and
which he says will go fro mtwo to
two and one-half tons to the acre. He
says the crop will again be ready to
cut In July, and if irrigated will fur
nish a third crop in August. The rais
ing of alfalfa seems no longer an ex
periment in Lane county.
A large express wagon load of cut
flowers were sent to Portland last
Wednesday afternoon by the pupils
of the Springfield school, which will
be displayed at the floral fiesta,
which will be held in Portland from
June 1 to 6. A request has been sent
out to many of the schools over the
state to contribute flowers for the
big roso show, among them being the
Springfield schools, which of course
responded very liberally.
