The homestead contest case of
Phalle L. Nash vs. Calvin R. Dayat,
involving the west half of the north
west quarter of the southwest quar
ter of section 6, township 16, Bouth
of range 2 west, was decided on May
2 5 In favor or the contestant. I. N.
Harbaugh was the attorney for the
contestant. The case was heard be
fore U. S. Commissioner W. W. Cal
kins in Eugene on April 15.
The Commercial Club has been in
formed by the Portland Rose Festi
val committee that an information
bureau has been opened, with head
quarters at 515 Swetland building,
Portland, where visitors can arrange
for lodging without extra cast, the
rooms ranging from 75 cents to $5 a
day. The Information bureau 'has
rooms listed in desirable locations,
and can assign rooms by mail If so
asked.
The White automombile, on Its
way from San Francisco to Portland,
endeavoring to establish a new rec
ord, will not pass through Eugene,
but will go through Springfield,
crossing the bridge there tomorrow
morning about daylight. This Is on
account of having to cross the ferry
at Harrlsburg If the machine came
this way, and there would be a delay
on account of the ferryman not be
ing on hand at that early hour to
take the boat across.

mill there during its Idleness, the
plant having been shut down a few
days ago. He has been employed in
the mill there for some time past
Rev. Charles W. Smith is In his
68th year, but he Is one of the
strongest men in Methodism and has
been so considered for 2 0 years, dur
ing which time he has been the edi
tor of the Pittsburg Advocate. This
paper has the largest circulation 'of
any paper in the church.
