Much snow Is reported to have fal
len In the mountains In the eastern
part of the county during the rains
In the valley the past few days. The
weather for May Is, about the coldest
known In Oregon for years. Usually
the sun Is more in evidence than It
has been for the past two weeks.
However, (he rain Is being relished
by farmers In the valley, as it will be
of Inestimable benefit to the growing
crops. The fruit situation 1b good,
and growers report that the cherry
crop will be exceptionally fine, cher
ries In the valley now being as largo
as peas. The only crop so far report
ed to be not up to standard 1b the
prune crop, which will be only about
half. Hops are in fine condition.

BEGINS AT UNIVERSITY
The postal card campaign has be
gun by the University students In the
I'nivcrxliv of Oreson appropriation
(battle, which close at election day,
June 1st. Bach siaaeni is given a.
couple of dozen petal cards, which
h addresses, and lo which he signs
his name It is hoped that these.
cards will be very effective, not so
much in convincing voters, but in re
minding them of the University
measure.
Oil the side of the address there Is
a brief request for the vote of each
elector. It states also, how Oregon's
appropriation compares with other
ulittna
On the back of the card a number
of interesting facts are given, the
most Important of which, pernaps is
the Increase in taxation. The Uni
versity bill, if passed, will increase
the taxes on 11,000 only z l-io cents
or 10 1-2 cents on $3,000. .
The Linn County Grange is the on
ly organization, in the state Opposing
tho University bill.

rope "will receive sealed proposals
at the office of the city recorder in
Eugenej Oregon, for the purchase of
three hundred thousand dollars in
water bonds of said city, or any part
thereof, ,up to the hour of 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, July 7, 1988, and that said
proposals will be opened and consid
ered by the council at said time.
That the city of Eugene proposes
to sell the said three hundred thous
and dollars of water bonds to the
highest bidder therefor in denomi
nations of from one hundred to one
thousand dollars, as the purchaser
may desire; that said bonds are to
bear interest at tho rate bid, not to
exceed 5 per cent per annum; said
Interest payable semi-annually on
the first day of July and January of
each year from their date until paid;
that said three hundred thous
and dollars of water bonds will be
come due and payable by the city of
'Eugene as follows: On the first day
of January, 1948, principal and in
terest payable at a place to be agreed
upon by purchaser and city. ,
That said bonds shall not be sold
for less than their par value; that in
addition to the general obligation of
the said city, the said bonds when
sold shall be a first and exclusive
lien on all lands, rights-of-way, ease
ments, water rights, pipe lines, struc
tures and appliances of every kind
composing the water system to be se
cured with the money derived from
the sale of said bonds: that the com
mon council reserve the right of re
jecting any and all bids.
That the said bonds will be Issued
and disposed of under an ! pursuant
to the terms of the act, "To re-incorporate
the city of Eugene, and to re
peal all acts and parts of acts In con
flict herewith," filed in the office
of the secretary of state February IS,
190.1, and the amendments thereto
passed and enacted by the people of
the city of Eugene on the 18th day
of April, 1908.
A certified check of five per cent
of the amount of each bid, payable to
J. D. Matlock, Mayor, is required to
accompany each bid.
This notice Is published for 60
days In the Morning Register and Eu
gene Dally Guard, newspapers of gen
eral circulation, published at Eugene,
Oregon.
