which make a good wife and good
mother. If each has self-rcsnect on, l
If each realizes that the greatest
tning in lite Is the chance to do ser
vice why, then the future of the na-
is secure, vie cannot stand up
for what Is good 111 manhood and wo
manhood without condemning what
Is evil. We must condemn the man
who is either brutal and vicious or
weak and cowardly the man who
fails to do his duty by the public.who
is a bad neighbor, an idler, an incon
siderate and selfish husband, a neg-
leciuu latner. so also must wo con
demn the woman who, whether from
cowardice or coldness, from selfish
love of ease or from lack of all true
womanly qualities, refuses to do
aright her great and all-essential du
ties of wifehood and motherhood. YVe
admire a good man; but we admire a
good woman more. We believe in
her more. All honor Is due the man
who does his full duty in peace, who
as a soldier does his full duty In war,
but even more honor Is due the moth
er, for the birth pangs make all men
the debtors of all women. No hu
man being hes a greater title to re
spect than the mother who does her
full duty, who hears and rears plen
ty of healthy children, so that there
shall be national growth and not na
tional decadence, so that in quality
and quantity our people shall In
crease. The measure of our belief
In and respect for the good man and
the good womnn must be the measure
of our condemnation of the man and
the woman who, whether from vlc
ionsness or selfishness or from vapid
folly, fails to do each his or her duty
In his or her special sphere. Cour
age, unselfishness, common sense, de
votion to high ideals, a proper care
for the things of the spirit, and yet
also for the things of the body these
are what we most need to see in our
people, these are the qualities that
make up the right type of family
life: and these are the qualities that
by prer- pt and by example you here,
whom I am addressing, are bound to
do al in your power to make the typ
ical qualities of American citizen
ship." STATE GRANGE ENDS

would be a confusing and disturb

Citizens of Eugene Tlmlikill
The committee on resolutions re
ported as follows:
Resolved, That the officers, mem
bers and visitors of the Oregon stale
grange. In this 35th annual session
assembled, do hereby express their
most sincere appreciation and
thanks to ail ronrerm-d who have In
any manner contributed to the suc

"The Grange in Eugene."
The following verses were continu
ed by Ethel Pringle on "The State
Grange in Eugene":
We love our order, we lore this tow n.
And it is hoped not one will give It
a frown
After being so nicely entertained
At this great session of the State
Grange.
Now Eugene Is an Industrious town.
And no one should try to put It dowii
Hut help It to gain Its efforts high
Of which this State Grange will sure
ly try.
And the V. of O., we must not for
get, Although when wo visited it It was
rather wet :
With President Campbell In the lend
To have the students do some good
deed.
Next the Commercial Club must he
remembered.
Whose assistance has been so kindly
rendered
In giving the members of this great
order
A chance to see Eugene from border
to border.
We think Lane county granges have
showed their good will,
And will surely have to pay some bills
for giving the State Grange such a
treat
Of the many good things they had to
eat.
The State Orange met In Odd Fel
lows' hall.
We know It is thelr's by the emblems
on its walls;
Thanks be to their order and God
bless them all.
If they live up to their motto at the
head of their hall.
And when we walk upon. the streets
Not only Patrons do we meet,
P;it citizens of high renown '
Which makes complete this lovely
town.
Again there is something we do not
see.
Something of which Eugone Is free,
Which surely Is a credit to you,
And don't let one como here, what
'ere you do. j
Now, you all know what I mean,
It Is a saloon, which would cause cit
izens to dream :
To dream the dreams thai will causo
them to do
Deeds of disgrace to themselves and
you.
And when to our humble homes wo
c-n
We, as State Granger members, sure
ly Know
Much credit Is due to Eugeno,
The town which is surely fit for a
"Queen."
