ramento Gas & Electric Company de
posited with the trust company.
As the prisoner was taken from
the county jail he seemed complete
ly resigned to his fate, and showed
little emotion.
Up to the last minute Brown had
hopes of being able to escape confine
ment In tbe penitentiary, pleading
that he be allowed to serve his sen
tence in the county jail, but this re
quest was denied him on the ground
that It would lead to' the breaking
down of prison disctplfne. He will,
therefore, have to undergo the humil
iation of being measured shaved and
cropped and clothed in. convict's

After 22 years of continuous anU
efficient service Miss Kate Bulck has
resigned the management of the
Western Union Telegraph Company's
office In this city. Her successor is
not yet announced. Miss Buick will
continue In charge of the Wells-Fargo
express agency, which business has
now reached such proportions as to
demand her entire attention. On
June 1 the telegraph company's head
quarters will be transferred from the
present location to the apartments
now occupied by the Bond Real Es
tate Company,' just one block south;
but the express agency will remain
where it Is now. Frank Busch, who
htis been employed by Miss Bulck for
several months past, left this morn
ing for L,ake Tahoe, Cal., to work In
the express office at that place.
