companied by his son, A. V. White,
also of New York. Mr. White annu
ally visits the Pacific coast, where he
has Interests aside from those of the
Oregon Electric, and declined yester
day to enter Into a discussion of 'the
plans of the men who are financing
the road other than to confirm the
published report of proposed exten
sions of the system throughout the
Willamette valley and Into the coast
counties.
Accompanied by Guy W. Talbot,
general manager of the Oregon Elec
tric and members of the contracting
firm which built the road, Mr. White
and son yesterday made a trip of In
spection to Salem. This was the first
i trip Mr. White has made over the
road since It was completed.
It is expected he may visit Eugene
before returning East.

The present plan of nominating i
ndldates by the primary system i
candid
seemed unsatisfactory to a good part
of tho convention, and a resolution
was unanimously determined upon
by which a Hepublican convention
will bo called lu the first week of
March, 1910, to recommend noml-
nees to the Republican voters of thej
county. It was also Incorporated in
this resolution, after some discus-
sion, to prohibit proxies belns voted
except by members to the convention
from the same precinct that the prox
ies represented.
Amid great applause on the part
of every delegate another resolution
was passed heartily endorsing tho ap
propriation for the University of Or
egon .and not only endorsing the
work of the institution, but pledging
each member to work Tr the meas
ure. When the resolution came to a
vote there was not a single dissent
ing "no."
About 17" prominent Republicans
were present from all over the coun
ty, lion. H. S. Bryson wns elected
secretary and S. L. Moorehead. of
Junction City, presided. State Sen-
ntor Frank J. Miller, of Albany, nuido
an ltd dress at the beginning of the
convention, and S. M. Yoran follow
ed with a forty-minute talk broken
by frequent applause, lly the time
he had finished the committee on
resolutions were ready to report,
each resolution, as It was read by
Dr. Kuykendall, chairman of the
committee, being voted upon, and in
each case being unanimously passed.

The convention in Portland will
be held on Thursday. May 14. Twelve
delegates were selected to the state
convention, which will choose eight
of Oregon's national delegation of
twelve, and twelve others for the dis
trict convention which chooses two
delegates for this district, the other
two being chosen by the- second con
gressional district.
The delegaes for the district con
vention are: S. h. Moorehead, T. C.
Whe' ler, V. F. Walker, O. H. Kelly,
