V. tl. Allen, manager of the Allon
Fruit Company's cannery in this city,
today told a Guard reporter that ho
thoiiKht the prune crop In Lane coun
ty this year would be only about 2
per cent of a full yield on account of
the killing frost which occurred on
(lu nlHhl of Friday, April 24. Mr.
A Men has visited s' vera I prune or
chards In the vicinity of Kugouo and
finds In each a very poor outlook.
Some have been effected worse than
others, and he says his own orchard
below the city looks about as bad or
worse lhaa any he has seen. He
thinks his crop will be less than 10
per rem of a full yield.
"The frost seemed to catch t'.io
prune blossoms In their tenderest
stae and played great havoc with
iheiu." said .Mr. Allen. "F.verv pruno
orchard that 1 have examined shows
up very poorly am) I think I am safo
in sayltm that (hero will not be more
than a fourth of a crop this year."
While the prunes have suffered se
verely, Mr. Allen thinks there waa
no damage to any other fruit crop.
The apple blossoms were not far
enough along to hurt and the peach
blossoms were too far advanced to
be effected. The cherries aro all
right, Mr. Allen thinks, and there
ougt to be a bumper crop, although
in one of two pbtces, It Is reported,
they were nipped slightly. U waa
