Thiit is the statement tunde today
by n. J. Hecl;er, of Heckfr I(rj:hers,
dealers In livestock, with head
quarters at Albany, who rame la witii
a carload of stock yesterday.
"A now era Is just now open let in
the Willamette valley." wntl Mr.
I Meeker, "and the estnblishtbeiit of

that Is making for an industrial rev
olution in the. great agricultural dis

poverty and raise hogs, cattle and
sheep for the Portland market."
Provisions Are Advanced Again.
Portland provision market has
been affected by the recent sharp
advance in the prlcu ot various pro
ducts In the east, iuTlurilng live h'tgs
and tho manufactured stock. The
Union Meat company here ia quot
ing small hams up to'13VyR a pound,
which Is a net advance of Vfcc over
former rulings. Picnics and cottage
roHs are advanced a full cent a
pound; the former going to 1 0c and
the latter to 11c a pound. A like
advance( put the price of shoulders
to 11c today. In bacon .the tenden
cy was fractionally downward ow
ing to the fact that prices in that line
had scarcely been hit by the aval-
I anche which struck the general pro-
vision market ab'mt a month ngo,
The drop today amounts to but a
i fraction. The general provision
market Is In very fine form today;
'the advmce in the price of live hogs
In the yard. here yesterday to 6c be
I Ing somewhat of a help toward main
taining the advanced standard for
tthe manufactured line.
Higher Price for VvnI.
In the dressed veal market a
I higher range of values Is again In
effect. The market for best stock
is all the wajsfrom 9 to 10c a pound,
the latter figure being received by a
large receiver. At such high values
the returns to the shipper should
be heavy. For dressed hogB the
Front street market Is in fine shape
because of the very Hcant arrivals In
the stock yards and the higher price
ruling there. Some of the best stock
Is moving off as high as Kc a pound.
This is for select small sizes. Large
hogs, while showing a disposition to
move, are not bringing the ton values
by any means. This should be taken
Into consideration by shipper.
Small Are Sen roe.
There is a great scarcity of small
fish In the local wholesale market.
The storms off the coast have pre
vented the usual catch and In conse-
