Todav the petition for the local op
tion election was filed and the ques
tion of whether or not the sale of li
quor shall be prohibited in Lane
county will be placed on the ballots
at tho coming June election. The pe
tition contains the names of 591 le
gal voters of the county, the clerk
having gone over the list and struck
out all of the names which do not
appear on the registration books.
There were not many of them. The
law requires ten per cent of the vot
ers of the county to sign, the peti
tion, and many more than the re
quired number were on.
The petition was circulated during
the past two months by those opposed
to the present "dry" condition of the
county, and many have hopes thai
they will win out at tne pons.
