STANFORD STVDKXTS
THREATEN TO yl'lT
Stanford University, CaV. March
20. Chaos reigns .here today over
the action of the faculty committee
in suspending 41 students, all upper
classmen, who participated in the
recent demonstration against the
anti-llqur edict. Other students of
the college are taking out leuves of
absence never to return.
The trouble Is not due directly to
the rules against the use of liquor,
but to the denial of the right of ap
peal on part of the students from the
nrbitrary rulings of the committee on
student affairs, which hns long been
unpopular. It Is rumored that some
of the faculty favor Ihe students and
a serious split may result. The mnt
V'r is complicated by the illness of
President David Starr Jordan, who.
It is reported, has appendicitis.
