Marshfield Times: E. S. Bargelt
left this morning for Portland, where
be was called by the Illness of his
wife. Mrs. Bargelt, who Is grand mat

was taken ill at Eugene while visiting
the various chapters but was able to
reach Portland before she was com
pelled to give up. The many friends
of the family on C6os Bay wish her
speedy recovery.

The promotion department of the
Eugene Commercial Club this morn
ing received a special delivery letter
from a man in St. Louis who stated
that he was on the point of buying
a farm near that city when he saw
the club's advertisement, about Eu
gene in the St. Louis Globe-Democrat
and desired to know more about this
city and county before buying. He
was wired to wait for the arrival of
a letter an1 literature which were
sent out today. This item is given to
show the manner of work the pro
motion department Is doing.

asking for all the available data on
tho subject! President Prltchett
mentions that this Is the first case
of this kind wheje a fight was made
to cut off the appropriation of an
educational Institution, and that, on
this account, he and his faculty are
much interested and will make a
study of the circumstances surround
ing such a movement.
