Columbia river district are expected
"lien up within the next two or
three weeks, but as yet no orders
nave been placed with employment
agencies for loggers, says the Port
land Journal. About 3000 men would
be needed to supply all the camps
with normal forces. It U said that
white labor is scarce, because many
of the men have drifted to other
parts since the shutting down of out
door work last fall.
Woges for loggers, which last vear
ranged from $2.25 to 13.75 per dav.
will this season start at $2 to $3.25.
There are plenty of foreigners avail
able for common labor, but logging
bosses usually prefer nutlve born
hel.
Logging camps are already being
operated by the large Portland mills
that draw their supplies from the Co
lumbia river territory. These camps
wave uveii running most or the win
ter. The Chapman Lodging Compa
ny near Warren is In full operation.
Benson's logging operations in a very
large camp on the Clatskaule have
not ceased all winter. The O. K.
Company Is preparing to open a large
camp near Marshland. The Eastern
& Western Lumbar Company has
been operating steadily near Rnnier
and so has the Inman-Poulsen Com
pany near Kelso.
A labor employment ncenov ihnt
handles orders in season for' larire
numbers of loggers, said:
"Thus far we have had no intima
tion that the logging camps generallv
would open. There have been no or
ders placed with us to indicate more
that a small demand here and there
for help to fill vacancies. White la
borers have left this part of the coun
try in large numbers last fall, and it
looks to us as if there would lie a
scarcity of labor in and around Port
land this spring, if work opens up
evry generally. There are plenty of
foreigners on hand, and these will be
employed at somewhat lower wages
than were paid last year."
SEND TRACK TEAM
TO COLUMBIA MEET
The University track outlook Is
brightening up a little owing to the
fact that new men are turning out
dally. Last night an extra large
bunch was out, and although there
are no bright particular stars among
them the prospects for a. well-balanced
team are Improving. The try
out for the Columbia Indoor meet will
be held April . The meet comes a
week earlier this year, April 11. A
good-slied squad will be taken to Co
lumbia by Trainer Hayward, as many
of the new men are given their first
experience In this meet. Last year
the first and second place men In all
events were taken.

NEW ANTI-TOXIJf FOUND.
The Germans have found an anti
toxin for the "laziness germ." They
claim that It will transform any man
of sluggish and slothful habits Into
an energetic person to whom that
"tired feeling" Ib unknown. This is
the reduction of the germ theory
to its logical absurdity. Germa are
not the only cause of disease. Germs
simply multiply In depleted or dis
eased tissue. Saturday Evening
Post.
Osteopathy seals the fate of germs
by restoring the proper circulation of
the bodily fluids that are alone cap
able of Impairing the diseased tissue.
Does It not seem like the correct and
rational method?
