specific charges are. made in a peti
tion praying for the removal of Dis
trict Attorney Jerome, which was sent
to Governor Hughes today by a com
mittee of stockholders of the Metro
politan streets Railway through their
chairman. William F. King. The pe
tition charges Jerome with having
failed to properly prosecute the
charges of alleged jury fixing in the
street railway' cases; that he delayed
the prosecutions in the life Insur
ance cases; that he allowed a conspi
racy to divert the property of the
Metropolitan Street Railway Into the
hands of a few men, which was al
lowed by Jerome to go on to the 1 iss
of the stockholders; that his state
ments as to judges have been scan-1
dulous, mid have tended to destroy
confidence In the integrity or their,
courts; that he misconducted himself
by failing to Indict some official of
the New York Central Railroad in
connection with the collision In that
company's tunnel, when seventeen
were killed, and various other accusations.

the police believe McComas applied
