Lowell, Feb. 10. The coninuinltv
of Ixiwell was somewhat surprised the
7th Inst, by the sheriff arresting
Kills Wilhelm, of Haceldell, son of
David Wilhelm, for horse stealing.
The boy is about sixteen years old
and last fall his father gave him the
privilege, of earning a few dimes for
himself and he went across the moun
tains to Eastern Oregon by the wav
of Odell Lake, fjllowlng the trail
that the railroad surveyors linj blitz
ed out, and finding employment in
the country northeast of the lakes
. herding sheep for a short time.
When he returned home late in the
fall he brought a horse ho claimed to
! have bought. Soon nfter his return
; there was a rumor circulated, caused
by an item published in the Silver
; I.ako paper that the boy had stolen
. the horse and left for the Willamette
I valley, but- nothing more was heard
: of the affair and it was the Impres
sion of the neighborheed that it was
ja mistake until the airest was made.
He traded the' horse off a short time
: ago. but the horse Is in the vicinity
of Dexter and will be easily found.
David Wilhelm, his father, Is known
! to be a man of good standing and
highly respected by all who know
him, and is no doubt very "much
. grieved over his son's actions.
(Hurry Graham, acting as special
deputy sheriff, made the arrest, and
the young man is now in the county
Jail. A deputy sheriff from Lake
view is expected here tonight to take
; li 1 iu back there. Editor.)
I time. The liquor Interests have pre
pared the petitions and they are now
In the hands of different persons.
'Already a good many signatures have
I been obtained and the circulators are
confident of securing the required
i number.

! A disastrous runaway occurred
this forenoon about 9 o'clock. One of
Nye's delivery teams started from
Fairmount on a wild tangent, and
coming down town ran out 9th street,
to Olive, and turning there collided
with M. A. Stewart'B milk wagon,
' which was standing in front of Itev.
P. K. Hammond's residence next door
to the Episcopal church, Mr. Stewart
being in the house delivering a bottle
of milk at the time. This started the

PIANO BUSINESS
For the benefit of those who do not
know or realize what we are doing,
permit us to say that we have decided
to concentrate our retail piano busi
ness in Portland, which Is our head
quarters for Oregon, and do a whole
sale business only In thH smaller cit
ies. This explains why we are go-J
ing out or business here. We will
sub-let our warerooms to S. E. Ste
vens and L. G. Hulln, who have suc
cessfully represented us in this ter
ritory during the last year and whose
! services we have retained during the
: closing out sale.
Messrs. Stevens and Hulin have or
dered a new and complete stock of
pianos and organs from the facto-
j ries and will arrange to launch in
, business for themselves as soon as
j we vacate th premises.
I Every Instrument now In stock,
i including all new pianos, pianolas.
I player pianos and orgniiR, will be sold
at their actual factory cost plus a
small amount to cover freight charge
i We prefer to sell them us above rath
er than go to the expense of boxing
and shipping them to Portland.
If every one could realize the sit
uation as it Is, nothing would be left
for sale at the end of this week. Ev
ery piano offered is definitely and
absolutely guaranteed. In other
words, should the Instrument prove
unsatisfactory we will replace It with
a new one free of charge.
