The Orpheum moving piurire thea
tre in the Holden bolik Willam
ette street was opened tff the public
last night with a big business. The
Eugene baud surprised Munager
Mummey by appearing in front of the
place at opening time and playing a
few airs. Mr. Mummey has always
taken an active Interest In the affairs
of the band, and this was done ill ap
preciation of bis work. The perform
ance at the theatre wus good and was
worth more than the price ot admis
sion. The moving pictures were
pleasing and the illustrated song by
Mr. Parker was fine, the singer hav
ing a good voice for that work. The
Orpheum promises to be a popular
place of amusement.

ways are coming up the valley from
Portland and both of them must en
ter the city from the west, and the
line that will tap the Siuslaw coun
