SHERIFF. FISK
WILL NOT SEEK
NOMINATION;
Sheriff Fred Fisk has announced
that .he will not seek renomination
this year. Several months ago he
determined not to run for office
again, and when questioned by a
Guard reporter in regard to the mat
ter he stated that he had not changed
his mind.
Fisk would no doubt be re-elected
if he desired, If his majorities ut thej
last two eiecnonn are any criterion.
In 1904, when J. S. Stiles was his Re
publican opponent, his majority was
S90, and in 1906, when W. J. War
nock ran against him, he was ahead
S9 when all votes were counted.

A meeting of the board of gover
nors of the Commercial Club was held
last night and many matters of im
portance were discussed. Among the
most Important was tho suggestion
to linve each pupil in the public
schools write a postal card to some
friend East, the text to be furnished
by tho Commercial Club. This was
approved and at A. C. Dixon's sugges
tion prizes will be offered for the best
written card.
The front page for the proposed
monthly magazine to be published
here was submitted to the board, but
though several titles were suggested
none was adopted for the the present.
The matter of a new city dlrecrory
was brought up and on D.E . Yoran's
suggestion it was decided to wait till
next fall before going in for this.
W. M. Green suggested the holding
of a county fair.
Several letters were submitted
from inquirers, among them one who
wants to start a sanitarium and sev
eral who want to go Into manufactur
ing of one kind or another.
A definite proposition in full detail
was submitted to the board In regard
to getting up the handsomest album
or booklet of views gotten out by any
communlty, also about getting out
large framed photographs of the Uni
versity, the latter to bo placed In the
prominent hotels of Portland, South
and East.
. Letters were read from various
railroad officials confirming receipt
of the board's resolution in regard 1
Oregon getting no share of the East
ern newspaper advertising. The let
ters showed that the suggestion made
by the board has not fallen on deaf
ears.
