Guldfield, Dec. 14. Investigation
of the rumor that a woman was badly
beaten at a nearly hour today by pick
ets of the union Is being mude by
the police today. The woman is said
to be Ihe wife of a non-union miner
who deserted the Western Federation
and has been boarding miners work
ins in the mines. No arrests have
been made.
Today the electricians in the em
ploy of the Nevada & California Pow
er Company and the engineers and
carpenters at the mines, all members
of the local unions affiliated witli Un
American Federation of Labor, re
turned to work. This Involves u ten
days' truce during which the commit
tees of each ' organization will work
together in the preparation of a new
wage scale.

is no doubt that the first special train
of strike breakers 'is about due at
Ccldfield. Serious trouble is anti
cipated on the arrival of the train,

There was a daringly conceived at-:
tempt to rob a mail train carrying a
large amount of money last night at
Salakstu by a band of sixty robbers.
Thirty yards of the track was torn
mi on a down grade, and running at
lull speed the train plunged over the
ties. The robbers, who were in hid
ing. Immediately advanced on the
train guard and passengers, aud
threw eight bombs and opened a
heavy fire. The train guards rallied
and returned the fire from behind a
mass of wreckage and finally drove
the robbers off. carrying their
wounded with them.
