The annual convention of the
Lane County Woman's Christ'an
Temperance I'nlon held In the Bap
tist church yesterddV. was one of
unusual Importance. , The sessions,
devoted almost entirely to business,
were intensely interesting from start
to finish. Mrs. Wheeler, the county
president, said In her annual address,
that during the seveiuiein years
Lane county has been organized no
one year has perhaps shown so much
progress in all lines of work as the
one just closing. New deparements
are being worked. The 1.. T. I.,
work is coming to the front. We
now have eight active unions, three
L. T. I..s, two "Y.s and one union
not holding regular meetings. Our
finances are In the best of condition
erer known, medal contest work is
also being pushed, more opies of
our state and national papers are be
ing taken, and more interest mani
fested in temperance literal lire. Pro
hibition is prohibiting more and
more throughout tho county. In
conclusion she-said:
"We must work to get each city
council to pass an ordinance prohib
iting the shipment of Intoxicating li
quors into prohibition territory. Sa
lem, California, has done this and
the Southern Paclfip agents from
i Portland to San Francisco have been
' Instructed not to accept shipment of
liquor to Salem."
The Irving union, on account of
j the faithful work done under ad
verse conditions, was declared unati-
