FIVE PERFECT CURES

! . . ,. .. ..
I "Outloura Remedies saved my two
children. My little girl's face was so
covered with sores that she could not
'see and I thought at ono time that tier
-eyesight was gone for good. After
two dootors had failed to do her any
good a friend asked me to try the Cuti
oura Remedies. I did so and in two or
three days we oould see a great ohange
and in four weeks she was well and her
face was smooth and had oured nicely.
She had been sore tor three months so
that she could not rest night or day;
My little boy was sore all over. His
head was a solid scab. First we tried a
doctor who did him no good, but the
first time I bathed my son's head with
Cutloura Soap and put Cuticura Oint
ment on it he rested better at night
and the next morning his head was
much better. In five weeks he was
well. I cannot say enough for the
Cuticura Remedies for if I had not used
them my baby would have died. My
little sinter, Nora S , had a terribly
sore faoe. I told my mother of the
Cuticura Remedies. She used i them
and the child's face soon got well after
the bust doctors had failed. Pearl
B used Cuticura Soap, Ointment,

and little Pinkey 8 had a sore

Automomblles.have not driven the
horse out of his sphere one whit, says
E. C. Smith, t'ue veteran horse buyer,
who la in the city with a drove of
horses, most of which have been sold.
Today the horse is a scarcer article
and hieher in Eastern Oreiron than
) in i Western Oregon." Mr. Smith
brought a drove of horses from East
ern Oregon through the Willamette
valley, and says he finds he could
have sold his bunch at Shaniko for
more money than he has received on
the venture In this valley
Some years ago horsemen became
frightened over the oft-repeated
prophecy that the horse In fifteen
years would be a thing of the past,
generally speaking, and for three or
four years very few horses were rais
ed Since then, however, the demand
has been so great that the buyers
pick up the kind that used to go to
the canneries, and are glad to get
them. .
. The whole West has grown and
with the new growth all of the sur
plus horses have been used up by
farmers who want teams. Alberta, In
Canada, la the greatest 'horse market
in the world, and the new settlers
there could handle fifty thousand
horses, according to Mr. Smith. They
don't care whether they are big hors
es, little horses or ponies, but want
anything that will work. The unit
ed States cannot supply the demand,
and the horses are going up In price,
and will go still higher.
This summer thirty cars of East
ern Oregon animals have - gone to
Nebraska, the young ones to work on
the farms, and the brood mares to
raise mules.
As a result on these depredations
on the rangea of Oregon, horses are
becoming-very high In the eastern
section, the renowned home of cheap
horses. Where men were accustomed
to buy good riding horses across the
mountains for 15 and $10, they are
now obliged to pny as much as the
people do here, and some times more.
These things, clnims Mr. Smith,
who has traveled all over the country
In the horse business, make the bus
iness a very fine one now, and a
young man has an unexampled
chance to make his fortune doing
nothing but ralBlng horses for the
market of the country.
"if I were a young man," said Mr.
Smith. "I Would go where there was
still lots of range and Invest in hors
es The horse will never lose its
place because of the automobile, and
each year will make him worth
more." '
The best kind of all around horses
In this horseman's mind' Is the
Norman Percheron. He has the best
bone and suits the most purposes.
Mr. Smith leaves tonight for Seat
tle. He leaves about seventeen hors
es here at the Eugona Transfer Com
pany's barn which are yet to be sold.

BIG POWER
PLANT BEING
SURVEYED
A corp3 of engineers from San '
Francisco, In- the employ-of some
company at present unknown, have.'
been at work since early In the sum- i
mer on the electrical water power I
plant project at the head of the Mc
kenzie river. Considerable work was !
done there last summer, and it Is be
ing continued this year. Besides sur
veying out a canal route and power
house sites, roads are being laid out
over which it is presumed heavy ma
chinery of some kind is to be moved.
The canal as surveyed Is four to six
miles In length, and takes water di
rectly from Clear Lake, the source of
the McKenzle, and conveys It to a
point below the falls. The total drop I
In that distance Is said to be nine '
hundred feet, and the power attaina
ble under a full head of water, which
can only be had in that lava forma
tion by means of a cement canal, will
be something Immense. At one point
the canal will be built by tunneling
through a mountain.
It is presumed that the Idea of the
promoters Is to furnish electric power
for an electric line perhaps across
the mountains, and for factories
