POET TELLS OF
SENATORIAL BEI
Jonnuin Miller Mlves Political Talk
With Sonic Poetic Illusions.
Joaquin Miller, with his high
boots, long benrd, frock coat and
senatorial boom, is at the Imperial
hotel meeting friends, passing out
cigars and acting like a politician,
says the Portland Journal. He has
not lost his divine afflatus, and
sneaks of the mountains, forests,
sireams and hills In his old poetic
fashion. In fact the senatorial prob
ability is submerged in a prospective
edition of poems.
How the noet. came to be a sena
torial possibility was told in an old
fashioned manner this morning in
which side dissertations on the beau
ties of Oregon, ambitions realized
and fulfilled, past history of the Ore
gon country as seen from an ox
wagon, filled most of the interview.
"It was this way," began the poet.
"When I was In Portland on my day
at the Lewis and Clark exposition
some of the old-timers told me that
I ought to he United States senator.
That was two years ago. Some of
them still think so.. I am not seek
ing the office, neither am I running
awav from it.
"That Is all there is to it. What
would you do? I have had a great
denl of experience in Oregon; know
every tree In the state and a few out
side. That is one of my strongest
recommendations for the office."
.Mr. Miller will be in Portland sev
eral days. He will take part In the
meeting of the pioneers and stay
for the rose carnival. Next week
he will leave for Canyon City, where
he will he the orator nt the Fourth
of July celebration.

A SPEEDY AND
PERMANENT CURE
" Wo express to you herewit h our boat
thanks for the cure of our baby from
eczema. The eczema appeared when
the child was three months old. Wo
applied to several doctors and hospitals,
each of which gave us something differ
ent every time, but nothing brought re
lief. A physician recommended a salve
wliich we threw into the firo after two
days' use as the eczema became worse
so that the baby scratched his face. At
last, one of our friends recommended to
us Cuticura Soap and Cuticura Oint
ment. A few days afterwards improve
ment could be noted. Since then wo
have used nothing but Cuticura Soap
and Cuticura Ointment, and now the
baby is six niont lis old and is quite cured.
All that we used was ono cake of Cuti
cura Soap and two boxes Cuticura Oint
ment, costing in all $1.25. Even the
poorest man can pay that instead of
throwing it into tho doctor's lap. I
myself only make twelve dollars a week
as a teamster, but I recommend the
Cuticura Remedies strongly to all moth
ers whose children suffer from such dis
eases. They are cheap, harmless and
good. C. F. Kara ana Wife, 343 Kast
65th Street, New York, March 30, 1900."
FOR SORE HANDS
Soak the hands on retiring, in a hot,
creamy lather of Cuticura Soap. Dry
