FOil TIIC IDDREN Game of Stauep and Wolf Tear a piece of paper into as many pieces ns there are players and on each piece write Borne number representing an hour irrs e day. As there are only twelve hours there cau be only twelve numbers, but If more than twelve are pluylng you can niuke some of the figures half hours until there are the required number. On one piece mark a cross and then shake all the numbers ' hat, each player drawing oue out. one who gets the slip with tho ctohh on It Is "It," or the "wolf," while the other players are called the "sheep." A ring is then formed by the sheep, the wolf standing in the middle. The sheep then call out, "What time will you dine tonight, old wolf?" And Mr. Wolf calls out any hour he happens to think of. The sheep then who holds the slip corresponding to the number called by the wolf starts to run. It he can get around the ring three times before being caught by the wolf he Is safe; If not he must be "wolf." The game keeps up until all have had their turn at being "wolf," and this does not take long, for the wolf is not supposed to call the same number twice. A Famous Dob. A deservedly famous dog was Wolf, the "nigh lender" of the dog team that drew the sledges In the Greely arctic expedition. The off leader was Tiger, who fell a victim to stvatfou's de mands, but Wolf lived fora number of years after the rescue. Wolf had a his tory. He was the only dog that ever enlisted In the United States navy, and after the close of the expedition Wolf was given his regular papers of honor able discharge from the government service. Wolf was born In the north many years ago and taught to draw Bledges across the frozen sea by his Eskimo- master. Lieutenant Greely chose Wolf for his superior strength and wonderful intelligence, and he and Tiger led the team that dragged the unfortunate band of explorers north ward. He was a large animal, with long, gray, silky hair, and, although of grave demeanor, allowed children to romp with and ride on him. The Masrle Mirror Gum. It is very eesy to make a magic mir ror. All you have to do is to write or draw with chalk on an ordinary band mirror and wipe it gently with a soft doth. The words or pictures vanish. but they will reappear It the mirror is breathed upon. In telling fortunes with the mirror you must leave It in another room until It la wanted. Then, a question being put to you. go in quest of the mirror, write upon it and rub off an appropriate or amusing an swer and take the mirror to your 'questioner and request him to breathe upon It. If you are a good, rapid draftsman you can during your short absence sketch tho face of a girl's fu ture husband on the glass, or If you hnvo decided on your victim before hand you can prepare the portrait at leisure. Deteetlns: a Thief. A gentleman living In the West In dies had a large sugar plantation, with a great number of native laborers em ployed on It He found that he was of ten robbed, and at length after losing a considerable 'sum he called his serv ants together. "My friends," said he, "I have had a wonderful dream' in the night I dreamed that the person who etole my money sbonld have at this Instant a feather on the tip of his nose." The thief on hearing this Immediate ly put his hand to his nose to see If the feather were there. "It Is you," cried the roaster, "who robbed me!" The simple negro confessed the theft, and the master recovered bis money. Hew to Americana. There's a new and strange beast at the Philadelphia 100, extremely rare In any country but lta own, which la the Island of Celebes, eastern archi pelago, south ot the Philippines. When ltB keeper pronounces its name it sounds like "I know her." But the aniiral la a male. It is an anoa, a curi ous specimen of dwarf buffalo, allied to the tamarau, and it has thirteen pairs of ribs. i. It looks more like a big goat than any animal known to Americans.
