A FAMILY ROW.
Thli Ib one oampaign in which
the OregonlaD is not particularly
abusing the Demooratio party, and
for a very good reason. It has a
lot of Republican dirty linen in
tbe ends and thai must be got out
Witness:
Republicans of Marion oonoty
and elsewhere, too, would do well
to look ont for tbe stiletto and
fifth-rib politios of Uovernor Goer.
It is known that Senator Simon is
doing his utmost toy, stab1 the Re

JAMAICAN WOMEN'S RIGHTS.
There la one spot on this Western
hemisphere! where the women "role
the roost," Jamaica, down in
the West Indies where they have
been having some shake-ups of this
not too solid old globe. A cor
refpondent writing from Kings
ton, the eapital of the island, says:
Tbe men do very little indeed,
and it ia against the religion and
praotioe of the Jamaica women to
marry for this reason. When mar
ried the English law mates Ibeir
property available to their hus
bands, who, consequently, will not
do any work while it lasts. Un
married, they are their own mas
ters, and if tbe lover, who la the
father of many children, does not
attend to business he will find his
plaoe usurped by some more will
ing back and will have to look else
where for a home. This rtiange
state of affairs has been the bane ol
the missionaries, but there seems
to be no remedy for it, for a woman
once free will not enter slavery
again. With tbe coolie the im
ported East Indian who works the
plantation the moral ties are en
tirely different The East Indian
punishes marital unfaithfulness
with death, and looks down with
ooi n upon the negro, and will not
under any olroamalnoea mis with
him,
SAMPLE REGISTER ARGUMENT
FOR DR KUYRENDALL'S
REELECTION.
Atefllster.MajW.
'The other day a prominent
Lane oounty Democrat offered to
bet $25 to 120 that Kuykendall
would be elected and he could get
no takers. Kuykendall's mj irity
will be somewhere between 350 and
600.
GAMBLER'S CANDIDATE.
Register; Regardless of party,
people who are ready to baok their
judgment with money are offering
odds on Senator Kuykendall's re
It is remembered, doubtless, that
things were not very good some
years ago, when tbe Demooratio
party had direction of tbe affairs of
the ooantry. Oregonian.
Those times the Oregonian refers
to oame at the last year of Presi
dent Harrison's administration.
The finanoial condition of the
ooantry was auoh that Harrison
was defeated for a second term by
Grover Cleveland, Tbe last years
of Cleveland's second term had
fairly prosperous conditions. It
was one of Shakespeare's oharaoters,
we believe, who exclaimed, "Lord,
Lord I How we old men are given
to lying I", Tbe worst of it ia in
this case tbe Oregonian ia not ig
norant of thefa ote.
The Register, too, resurreots tbe
remembrance of Ben Harrison's
hard times, and lays it to tbe Dem
ocralio party because the full force
of the panio tbat oame in Harri
son's last year spent itself in tbe
first year of Cleveland's seoood
term. Why should partisans treat
politios different lrom business
relations? The man that would
not misrepresent tbe least business
proposition often willingly beoomes
a most uheerful liar where politios
ia oonoerned.
"What ia a name?" Well, there'a
a good deal in some names. For
instance Isadore Degrandgagnage
of Ivison down on the SiuBlan is
advertised by the Roseburg land
office to "prove up" on his claim
One woman, at least, had a good
excuse for obanglng her name-
Mrs SohwelBtenoerg who was mar
ried to Ex-senator Mo Bride in New
York City the other day.
It ill beoomes the Register to
refer to the ''sympathy dodge" in
referenos to a politioal oandidaoy.
''It is an ill bird that foula its own
nest."
TO NON-REGISTERED VOTERS.
If you have not registered
with the county clerk you
will have to get six freehold
ers to certify that you are a
resident of the precinct and
entitled to vote before you can
cast your ballot on election
day. Those who failed to
register should be at the
polls early and get affidavits
of the freeholders before the
rush comes on in the middle
of the day. No man should
stay away from the polls;
all should oxeroise the elect
ive franchise.
