The election of Geo E Chamber
lain for goyernor ia conceded by
many republicans. Furniab baa
the barrel, bin Chamberlain baa
the qualification necessary to make
ae good a governor aa the state baa
ever had, and he will get the requi
eite number of votes. Jefferson
Review.
The OreRonian is in terrible
straits trying to conjure up reasons
for supporting Furnish for gov
ernor. It can find nothing against
Chamberlain well, nothinn except
be baa not made as much money
as Furnish. Still the Oregonian
abould consider that Mr Furnish
will bave a whole lot less money
hv the time be is through the
oanvass. Undoubtedly the Ore'
sonian has Borne positive personal
evidenoe as to what it is oosting Mr
Furnish to run for governor.

Polk Currin o( CotURe Qrove,
Demooralio , nomine for ooonty
oommlssioner of Lane County, is
one of the beet known citizens of
the southern part of the oounty.
He is a native of Virginia where he
was born in 1845. His parents
moved to Missouri in 1852, and to
Oregon In 1867, traveling all the
way across the plains with mule
teams
Mr Currin is a graduate of the
Corvallis Agricultural College, be
ing a member ot the first olasa.
Alter leaving oollefte he taught
Bohool about twelve years. Binoe
1882 he has been engaged in the
dru2 business at Cottage Qrove.
He is a practical surveyor and has
done considerable government oon
traot surveying ot the pnblio lands.
His work has been ot the highest
standard. Mr Currin moved
to Eugene ' last September in
order to obtain . the educational
beneQts of our publlo sohools and
Hi,, Bute University. He makes
trips to Cottage Qrove' onoe or
twioe a month to supervise his
business and will move back for
tbl summer.
The writer has enjoyed a rather
Intimate acquaintance with Polk
Currin slnos 1882, and knows that
the statement that he Is a safe, con
servative man will meet with no
vroiest at his home at Cottage
Grove, where he Is so well known,
Aa a considerable taxpayer be la
directly interested In an econom
toal administration ot oounty
affairs, while his residence in the
south end of the oounty will gits
that important section a member of
the oourt who is thoroughly oon

needs. With J R Hill near Junc
tion representing the north side in
the commissioner's o urt, Judge
Klncaid at Eugene and Mr Currin
at Cottage Qrove. the oounty would
be represented seotionally as well
as possible.
