Notice to Tax Pavers New Tax !
Law.
At tbe lost aeetlou of, tbe leginlature
a new law was ptuud In regard to tbe
collection of tsxa, wbieb law look ef
fect on December 1st, 1801, and In sub
stance Is as follows :
1. If you pay your taxes on or be
fore March 15tb you will be allowed a
relate of three percent.
2. If you pay your taxes between
March 16 tb and up to and Including
the drat Monday iu April there will
not ba any rebate and neither will
there be aoy penalty or lutereet
added.
8. If your taxes are not paid on or
before tbe first Monday of April, tbey
will become delinquent, when there
will be added a penalty of 10 per cent,
and tbe tax will also draw Interest at
the rate of 12 per cent per annum la
addition to tbe penally.
4. If you pay one-half of your taxes
on or before tbe first Monday In April
tbn tbe remaining half may run up
to aud Including tbe tiret Mondny In
Ootobor following; but If tbe hut half
of tax due Is not paid by tbe first Mon
day of October, Itbeoomee delinquent,
and there will be added tnsuoh balsnoe,
a penalty of 10 per cent, and In addi
tion, such balance will bear Interest at
tbe rate of 12 per oent per annum from
tbe first Monday In April until
paid.
6. On all personal property taxes
if one-half Is not paid en or before tbe
first Monday In Apill, tbe law com
pel Is tbe sheriff to levy upon and col
lect tbe same after M.iy 1st, hence to
prevent a levy upon t-ersoual property
after May 1st It will be neoessary for
one-half to be paid as above stated.
6. The law compels the sheriff
to sell all labdB on which taxes have
not been paid, and tbat suoh sales shall
not be held later than March 1st of the
year suooeeding the year in whioh tbe
tax levy is made.
7. The property will be sold to tbe
person bidding tbe lowest rate of In.
teroat, and oertlfloates will be Issued
tbtrefor, and deeds gtved to suoh prop
erty sold, unless redeemed within
three years' from the date of such
sale.'
Tbe 1901 assessment rolls will be, re
ceived at tbe sheriff's offloe Marob 1st,
li02. Any written enquiries regarding
1801 taxes received prior to that date
will be filed and promptly attended to
as soon as the books are open for pay,
sneiite. In making enquiries as to
amount of taxes, If possible, give to
whom the property Is assessed and a
description of the same.
