football with the Columbia university
eleven In New York City. Mr Angell
has been playing traokla for the 'varsi

yet lined up againBt any of the Big
Four teams. He plays bis position
with astonishing skill, considering the
faot that he baa but one hand. An
gell was one of the star players on the
Oregon eleven in 1898 nd 1899, and
won many honors in oratory and
athletloa during his college course.

"There was Joy at Columbia yaater-
terday when It was anneunoed that
Smith, the starling half-bask, had da
doed to play In the Cornell game.
Without Smith the abanoea of Colum
bia would look slim.
"Asa ground galnsr through ths
lines Hmtth Is even superior to Weekes.
The latter oan hurdle and gat around
the enda with great apaed, but Smith
la the atar line buoker of the team Ha
la also very strong on defensive work
and he will be useful In this depart,
ment as on the ofleuse."
