"When I opened my first bank ao
count not so very many years ago I

deposit of a few hundred dollars, was
given a bank book, wbioh showed the
amount of money I bad to my
credit, and a obeok book. Upon
returning to my office I carefully
plaoed the bank book In my desk
and forgot all about it. I carried
the check book in my pocket for
convenience sake. It was a new
sensation for me to draw cheokB,
I was like a child with a new toy.
When I needed money, or anybody
else wanted some, all I bad to do
was to go down after the check
book. I was the proudest man In
the state ol Washington. I lm
agined that my bank aooount was
aa long aa that of J Pierpont Mor-
gan, John D Rockefeller, or the
moral law itself, (or that matter,
Finally, however, I found that 1
had overplayed my hand, as they
say out West, One day I received 1
a notice from the bank that my
count bad been overdrawn to tbe
extent of $37.50. I didn't really
know what It meant or what to do,
What do you suppose I did do?
Well, I'll tell you. I walked into
the bank with the notice of over
draft, drew a oheok for the amount,
handed both to the paying teller
and started out of the bank. I was
called bask, and matters explained
to me, muoh to my humiliation.
