yesterday blew with particularly extra
force np tbe Bantlam. At Sates It
blew the wagon bridge between
Marlon and Lion counties down, and
some of tbe struoture floated down tbe
stream to Mill City. This bridge was
erected In 1897 by J MoCoy, of
Halem, and was afterwards repaired bv
Mr Tlllntaon the next spring. It was
never considered a very strong struct
ure. ' This means another bridge ex
pense to tbe two counties of several
thouwnd dollars. The wind also blew
down the old sbaok of a mill at En
terprlae, stripped of Its maohlnery
some time ago, besides trees, etc The
train from tbe front arrived consider
ably later than usuel.

theaters, concert halls, restaurants,

a height of-1,000 feet The top of the
statue Is to be used for observation
purposes, as Is the case with the statue

An Important Factor In tho Move
ment For Statehood.
The land of tho cactus and the Glln
monster has made another step toward
the realization of her dream of state
hood. The experience of other territo
ries has been that they have been ad
mitted to the Union when they have
shown n capability of governing them
selves, and tbe erection of public build
lugs hns been In the past accepted as
prima facie evidence of such capabil
ity. The peoplo of Arizona hope that,
now that they have erected a large and
costly state capltol, their other claims
to admission will he favorably acted

looked upon with especial favor in
181M) because of the erection of Its cap
ltol, and (it that time congress granted
largo tracts of laud to the new state to
compensate tho cost of the building.
Tho new Arizona capltol building Is
superior to any other ever erected In a
territory. It Is situated at 1'henlx, now
the capital of the territory and the fu
ture capital of the state. The citizens
of Arizona, feeling a commendable
pride In their growing commonwealth
and anxious to exhibit Its resources to
the world, bare built their capltol
building almost entirely of material
obtained lu the territory. The founda
tion Is of Malapal rook, the basement
of granite, and the material used In
the superstructure Is tufa, a superior
kind of granltu fouud in tbe Yavapai
mountains. In northern Arizona. Of
course tho building Is fireproof and Is
fitted with tho latest appliances tor
comfort and safety.
The capltol stands tn a beautiful
park of 20 acres, which has been laid
out for this purpose. The cost of the
building was $125,000; but, as planned
by the architect, the completed struc
ture calls for an expenditure of about
$750,000 that Is, provision Is made for
the erection of wings, should they be
come necessary. Tho building Is so
planned that this may be done without
destroying Its symaietry.
