men representing a Minnesota lumber
company were lu town today and filed
on several seotious of timber near Lake
Creek, with Northern Paoiflo scrip. It
Is their Intention to locate a larger
body of timber land In that section,
and In two or three years establish a
big mill there.
The Junction City publlo school is
being supplied with new slate black

chased the Butler place below town

orders foi hops were being dally re
ceived from Eastern aud English
dealrs, the demand being very active,
aud aa a result be expected, the price
at which the crop would move, to be a
remunerative one, the quality of the
hops, the smalloess of old slocks and
the eager iuquirles tor the new crop
ooullruilng him In that belief.
James Finuey, of Brooks, one 01 the
leading bop growers ol the valley, w is
In Halem yesterday. Mr Finney has
86 aorea of excellent hops, aud he has
received lu the past two weeks oilers
of coutraota for 12 cents per pound
from each of three of the leading hop
dealers in Balem. Upon bis refusal,
two of the dealers Intimated that, if
Mr Finney were disposed to contract
at all, they would raise the bid, but
fortunately he is not compelled to
contract bis bops, being amply able to
harvest the orop without this manner
ol disposing of It. Mr;Flnuey looks for
a better price than 12 cents, and is
sallsfled be will secure It by the lime
the bops are ready to move.
It is reported that Al Jerman, on
Howell Prairie, has been offered 14
cents a pound for bis hops, on con'
tract, and that Mr Jerman refused the
offer, aa be Is confident of securing a
better price, his hop being of excellent
quality.
