PROSPECT FOR PRUSES.
Oregon Will Come Into Computi
lion With Large Crops.
Long A Co, the pruno buyers, have
Issued a circular in regard to the mar
ket for this year. Among other things
they say:
"The conditions of 1000 are entirely
dissimilar from those of 18!)!). Against
a crop of 100,000,000 pounds in 18'JU, the
early estimate for 1000 was 175,000,000
pounds, but later and conservative es
timutes reduoe the quantity to 150,000,
000 pounds. The crop of all other
fruits lu California is muoh heavier
than last year. The eastern fruit crop
is very large, and Europe promises to
have reasonably lair crops. What
conclusions then, are to be drawn from
this situation? Ceitaiuly not very
high prices for the crop of 1000. We
shall not attempt to forecast the closing
situation, but it is our candid opinion
that eurly sellers will not have cause
for regret."
They also quote the following in
structions from the bulletin of the
California Cured Fruit Association,
which will govern inspectors in the
classification of pruues, and recom
mend that Oregon growers confirm
with them, or they will certainly have
to take lower prices for their product:
'First There will be two classes of
graded prunes, designated as lirst and
second quality.
Becond No prunes will be received
first quality unle-is thoroughly
cured and free from oracked, immature
or otherwise defeotlve or Imperfect
fruit.
Third All fruit delivered at ware
house containing unripe, cracked or
ottierwise defective fruit will be desig
nated as second quality."

CONE TO PORTLAND.
Dr Candiani, ol the Bluo River min
ing district, was in the city today
enroute to Portland to superintend the
shipment of a 6-stamp mill to be
placed on White's Buuset mine.
Dr C says: "Blue River will be the
greatest mining camp on the Pacific
coast in leas than five years. We have
the veins; all we want Is the develop
ment. "Ou my own gronp of claims I have
a Bryan mil) at work, and will build
two others of like capacity as soon as
possible. These three mills will grind
100 tons of quartz each 24 hours. My
ledge la solid quartz 24 feet wide. By
September 30th I will have five stamps
runniogontbe Sunset mine. This is
pretty good work, considering I have
only been in the district since last
Maroh.
"There are other fine uiltieB in this
district. Aud, by the way, some im
portant discoveries have recently been
made on the south side of the Mc
Kenzie. The Sparks' have olalms that
are very rich in that section.
"These mines are going to do a great
work in developing Lane county and
Eugene.
"I am very glad Eugene is going to
build a good road to the mines. It
will bring ber great returns ou the
amount expended."
Dr Candiani left for Portland on the
1:00 train this this afteruoou.
