The first speaker waa Rev V T
Matlock, of Carlton, who for two
years waa a student of the Eugene
Divinity school. Mr Matlock's
theme waa "The Work of the Eu
gene Divinity Sohool." Although
the atudenta and faculty are work
ins in heavy school work atill the
echool is making a respectable
showing as an evangelists lorce.
The student and faculty 'have
preaohed over 000 sermons in the
year; there have been over 225
additions to the church; $300 was
raised for the India famine; twelve
protraoted meetiuira held; one
church building at Franklin, Ure.,
ia being erected; six atudenta were
graduated tbia year five of these
were from 'Washington and one
from Oregon.
Mr Matlock waa followed by

enough that a preacher have some
thing to aay, he must also know
bow to aay it and bow to make It
impressive. Improvement in ap
pearance and manner of speaking
will keep ministers from being laid
on the shelf. Young people will be
bettor prepared to auooeed if voice
and body are trained.
Mr John J Handsaker, of the de
partment of missions, then out
lined the work of bia department,
which follows the plan of the stu
dent volunteer movement. This so
ciety originated at Northfield, Mass,
in 18S0, and entered the Eugene

no exposition of its courses was

Sch:ol." In view of the work the
school has already done, of what it
promiaoB to do, of its growth neces
sitating more teachers' and better
equipment, the duty of the uburch
is to support the school in every
way possible by Beading students
