PUBLISHERS OBJECT TO A
TRUST ROBBERY.
The Amorioan Newspaper Pub
lisher's Association held a meeting
In New York, recently, and resolved
against the paper trust. On one
question, at least, the publishers of
the oouutry are united. They oljivil
to being robbed by a tariff pro
tected, ornaniied trust,
. After stating that ''the price of
printing paper used by newspapers
in tbe United Stales has been ar
: hitrarily increased in price from 00
to 100 per cent, without reason or
warrant to be found in the condi
lions of the industry Itself, and
that it is tbe common belief that
this inoroase is due to the work
ings of a trust," the Association,
"representing not only Its own
members but 22,000 newspapers of
the United States," petitions con
gress to make inquiry luto trust
methods in view that adequate
legislation may be provided to
meet the new conditions. The
publishers give this exaot state
ment as to the position in which
they are caught by the "prosperity''

unlike most other forms of indus
try, sells at a fixed price, and has
no means of putting the increased
cost on to the consumer. In many
instances it means tbe complete
confiscation of protlts, and in many
others creates aotual loss.
