"Yes, I have heard of tlm reunion,
but I can't say that 1 feel called unorj
to go," Elmiia remarked as she let the
printed slip fall Into her lap. "I never
felt very proud of the .losslyn blood
anyway. Mother wouM stick it luto
uiy name, but I must say tho folks I've
seen bearing that name weren't auy
thing very remarkable. And now
there'll bo a whole gang of them a
whole gang of Josslyus." She sullied
scornfully. "No. I really don't feel
called upon to go to their old reunion,"
she repeated decisively.
"I don't suppose you do," Amelia
agreed. "Of course there wouldn't bo
anybody you ever knew or would want
to know. It ain't as if it were father's
family."
Elnilra reared her head proudly. "I
should say not," shounswered emphat
ically, "Why, there are governors aud
senators aud lawyers and and every
thing In grandfather's ancestors."
"They might have some among all
the Josslyns," Amelia suggested; "per
haps just a senator or something In
some branch of the family."
Elmlra shook her head decisively.
"Do you remember Great-aunt Sarah,"
sho demanded, "and Uncle Job and
and tho apple tree?" This she spoko
In a whisper.
Amelia nodded.
"And did you ever see such a lot of
nobodies In all your life as you used to
see at the funerals and weddings? You
felt as If you'd got to npologlzo to your
neighbors for them. Ancestors, indeed I
You needn't try to tell me they ever
bad any ancestors at all, any of them."
She took up the paper aud glanced It
through again.
"It is proposed to gather together all
the genealogical lore and traditions, to
separate tradition from fact and final
ly to publish a book in which shall bo
a complete history of tho Josslyn fam
ily from Adam to tho present genera
tion. To do this it is necessary that all
branches of tho family be represented,
and it is earnestly requested that, as
far as possible, all persons in whom
flows any drop of the Josslyn blobd
gather at tills reunion and contributo
their shnro to the fund of informa
tion." "1 suppose 1 might go," sho said
thoughtfully after a few moments'
pause. "Of course I'm not called upon
to, but it wouldn't hurt me any, and I
might And it kind of Interesting Just
to look on."
Sho looked inquiriugly at her sister.
"I would If I were you," Amelia re
plied promptly. "I'd go If I had the
chance. It's a dreadful thing to be so
lame." She sighed dismally.
"I s'pose you'd liko to hear about it,"
Elmlra remarked. "I might go on your
account, so as to amuse you talking
about It afterward. It mightn't be so
very bad, because I'm not very much
Josslyn, you know. They always said
1 favored father's side, anyhow. The
Bumstcads were all dark, and grand
father used to say ho didn't bellovo I'd
a drop of Josslyn blood in me at all.
You got It all, Amelia. You ought to
be the ono to go; but, seeing you can't,
1 s'pose I will. You'll bo glad to have
me, won't you, Amelia';"
Amelia sat by the little side window
and peered anxiously out Tho train

heard Its whistle and seen long puffs
of smoke over the marshes, aud sho
knew It ought to be tirao for her sister
to appear.
"I never knew her to be so long com
ing before," sho murmured fretfully to
herself. "Maybe she's stopped nt

over Just after sho went away."
There was a sudden peal nt tbetfront
doorbell.
Amelia rose and hobbled to tho-door.
"My landl" she exclaimed as Elml
ra's faco confronted her. Then sho
dropped her voice as she saw astrango
man by her sister's side.
"I forgot my latchkey, yon know,"
Elmlra said airily, "or 1 wouldn't bavo
troubled you, Amelia. This is our cous
in, Bradford Josslyn. IIo's come out
to seo the Josslyn china and has got
to go back on the next train, so we'll
have to hurry. You take him into tho
dining room while I go and get it Wo
have to be very careful of it, you
sec, because we think so much of It,"
sho explained to tho Btranger as she
departed toward the attic.
Amelia led the way silently to the
dining room. The parlor was cold. El
mlra had evidently reasoned that out,
and then, too, tho dining room was
the best place to show china of course.

tenderly. "But you're a Josslyn Just
the snme, Amelia, and you've the looks
more'n any ono there. I always said
you had, you know.
"There was a lot there, aud at first 1
felt kind of queer. And you had to tell
all you knew about your ancestors to a
man, and he had a lot of papers aud
seemed to know everybody, and ho

scattered round, and when they enmo
to describe it It came across me all of
a sudden of that box of crockery up in
the nttlo that grandfather gavo us and
we didn't ever use 'causo 'twas so old

"Right out afore everybody?" Amelia
gasped.

isn't Josslyn? My middle nanie is, any

"Well, they were dreadfully Interest

guess tho Josslyns ain't Impostors. Ho

head proudly.

sho confided to her sister Impressively.
"Three million dollars, nnd he's a big

tho china with tho Josslyn pattern ou

aunt."
Sho glanced nt the tnblo exultingly.
"There's more up In the attic," she
said as she clasped her hands.
Amelia moved laboriously across the
room, took up the cups nnd wiped
them carefully with a fine towel. Then
she took the teapot off tho stove. "Wo
might have a cup of tea iu them to
night," she suggested.
"I supposo wo could uso them quite
often," Elmlra said. "It's only proper
that we should uso tho family clilun."
She sipped her tea slowly.
"I've ordered a now set of cards,"
sho announced, with a furtive glnnce
at her sister, "and they're going to
read Elmlra .Tosslyn-Bumstend."

"And I ordered some for you, too,"
Amelia," she ndded, "because wo aro

John Ilawtrey was one of England's
famous whipping schoolmasters. At
Eton, In autumn, the small boys used
to buy chestnuts and roast them in a
shovel over the fire. One day a boy
named P., who was a great favorite of
