and which I called my daughter, Miss
Jennie, out to witness also. We live
In . Springfield. At fi a. m. Friday,
December 13, 1H90, two hours before
daylight, I saw a perfect rainbow to
the east, the full moon Mug In the
west and shining through a rift in the
clouds upon the gentle ralu that vas
falling here, while In the east there
was a dense cloud, as black as Ink. It
was on this that the bow was formed
perfect bow, reaching from the earth
on tbe north to the earth on the south,
of full site, perfectly white. It lacked
the brilliant light of lbs sun to bring
nut the other colon. I have never
seen nor beard of anything like It. but
I don't doubt that the Ilk has been

lies of this state are hereby required t
levy, at the aame time they levy other
lazes, a tax upon all taxable property
la their couuty, for school purposes, of
five mills on the dollar, which shall le
collected at tbe same time, in tbe same
manner and by the same officer, that
other taxes are collected
It will be seen mat this law fixes tbe
levy for scbod purposes absolutely.
This rate on the total taxable property
gives a fund of 2a,7W70, which U
$6,030.07 less than last year, being a
shortage per scholar of about $1. All
districts desiring or requiring as much
money next year ss received during
the past year should immediately call
a meeting and levy a special district
tax, notifying the couuty clerk on or
before February 1, WOO.
