would reach 30,000 acrep. But this la
not all, Tbe canal is to be made to
serve a two-fold purpose; while drain
ing the swamp tbe water thus secured
will be made to Irrigate the thousands
of acres of arid land lying lu that sec
tion.
This vast undertaking; was the Idea
of the late feter French, and at last it
will have a trial, the success of which
