It la the brodluea graudiflora (large
flowered Calllorula hyacinth) natural
order, lillaceae.
"It was the first known of the species
of Its genua, aud was discovered in
171)2 by Meuzies, a Kcotch collector.
Ic was named by J K Hmith, the presi
dent of the Lluuaeuu Society, of Lon
don, In honor of James Brodie, another
Scotch botanist.
"After Menzies' discovery of the
plant It was lost sight of by the
botanists until It was again found by
Lewis and Clark's expedition to the
Columbia river. Home years after this
it was also found by Douglas and
Scniiler, near Fort Vancouver, and
bulbs sunt by Dnuglaa bloomed In
Knglaud In WIS. Up to this date it
was the only known species of Its
genus. It prcrers dry open plains,
and sometimes blooms so luxuriantly

Wldiuer, who resides two miles west
of Kugune, died yisterduy, July 20,
from a complication of stomach trou
bles, after an illness extending over
two years.
Deceased was born HcHemher, 1841,

United Htatesln February, 1801, com
lug via Havre, France, and Cape Horn,
was married to Conrad Wldmer, Oct 8,
IKiil, at Oregon City; was the mother
of seveu children, four of horn, with
bur husband, lielng left to mourn her

A Collision. Auout 11:30 o'clock
this forenoon ul tbe Hoflmun House
corner, in the street, a collision, occured
between Sherman Heller on a bicycle
and :a country boy on horse back.
Each tried to dodge the other und ou

Heller weived a bloody nose and a

broken, while the countryman got off
