Tho amount wbioh the war revo

the artiolos taxed cannot yot be
fully dotormincd. A great doal of
questioning of grocerymen, tobacco
and drug dealers in tho city has
been done, but no exact data could
be obtained, and even the dealers
thomsolvcB are ignorant yet as to
what turn tlioy will make in order
to keep retail prices down and yot
sooure their business.
The amount of taxable goods al
ready on hand will probably be
stamped as soon as the doputy in
tornal revenue collector appears.
Some of the goods, Buoh ub puUnb
medioincs, of which a largo Block is
usually kept on hand, will not be
taxed until sold, and only au in-
voioooftbo eooda will bo taken
now.
Liberality from tlio collector is
taken for grauted in a lurgo number
of cases. But tobacco and sever il
other kinds of articles will be
stamped on the shelves.
On all goods bought by tho retail
dealers from now ou, the tax will
be paid by tho mnnnlncturors.
TbiB, ol course, in many oases will
raise the price, on tho local dealers
and oonsumorB. In some instances,
whoro a price has been long estab
lished, it is supposed tho manufac
turers will sillier tho loss, with per
haps a partial loss to tho rotuilors,
and none to the consumers.
Coast breweries, whoso tax has
boon raised from $1 to $2 a barrel,
olaim most of their profit will bo
tnkon off, but they can stand it
bettor than tho larger brewories of
tho eastern slate?. In fact, it may
prove a good thing for tho email

portunity lor competition, A mem

advance prices unless tin large
establishments do nnd oven in Hint
event tlioy will not increaxn the
prices much, as the largo competi
tors' may.
In tho case of cigarettes eight in
stead of 10 will bo put in a package.
Tho prices of cigars will probably
remain the came, but sumo means
will bo taken to avoid lo?sc.. A
smoking tobacco package will Le
one-quarter ounce loss for 10 cents.
l'lug tobaccos have risen 12J

exceptions no chance in prices has

When n man's stomach is out of order,
and his digestion don't work; when his liver
gets to be sluggish and won't clear the bile
out of his blood, it is time for him tp look
out for himself. He gets no nourishment
out of his food. His blood gets thicker and
thicker with impurities. His nerves get irri
tated. He loses energy and fighting force.
He may say, "I can stand it, I will feel
br to-morrow," but the chances arc he
wffl feel worse to-morrow and worse still
next day. He ought to put himself right at
once, lie needs Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical
Discovery. It is made for just this condition.
It rouses up the digestive nnd nutritive
organs, and gives them power to extract
from tlie food all the nutritious elements
nnd transform them into rich, nourishing
blood. It enables the liver to cleanse out all
bilious impurities and pour into the circula
tion an abundance of highly vitalized blood,
full of the life-giving red corpuscles which
build up healthy flesh, muscular strength,
and nerve-energy. It docs not make flabby
flesh. It is the only suitable tonic and
strength-builder for corpulent people.
