The Bohemia Mining Camp is fast
coming Into prominence as one of the
best camps on the coast Beiug ouly
one day's drive from Eugene, it Is
easy to teach at any time during the
year. A good wagon road w ill be fin
ished right into the center of the camp
withlu the uext few weeks. It only
lacks about 2J miles of being completed
at the present time. The mines are
all strictly quartz mities and rich
strikes are beiug made every few days.
The latest being made last week by R
E Hawley & Co 111 the Wall Street
mine. At a depth of 4 feet they struck
a veiu 8 Inches wide of high grade ga.
leua eve and by tho side of this a 10
inch vein of very free mllliug ore. The
samples showing the free gold very
conspicuously. Some pieces being liter
ally covered with it and oaslly percep
tible to the naked eye at a distauce of
twenty feet. They have sent a snck of
tile ore to be assayed. Iu sending the
oro to be assayed they do not pick out
special specimens, but tako a geueral
average of It all.
Sounds of blasting are he:ird
Iu all directions. Meprs Clover &
Kuapp havo commocced opening up a
tunnel on the White Swan mine and
the ore is proving richer than at Ilrst
supposed. Two road crews are at
work three or four wood cutnps are
in full blast one parly is hurtling
2C30 bushels of charcoal. A Haw mill
will be running about July 1st on
City croek just below tl.o Musio mine.

Roseburg PI -liudoiiler: "Whllo the

ture at Its coming session will revhe
aud overhaul the laws which provide
for tho expenditure of public money
and abolish every useless ollleo and
oommissiou to tho end Unit overy dol-
lar possible shall bo saved to the tax
payers, we do not believe that the poo-
pie of Oregon ask fiat a single dollar
bo withheld from any educational or
charitable Institution In tho stato,
which is necessary to maintain Its use
fulness or efficiency. Thero has been,
aud Is yet, a class of demagogues In
I his stato, aud they aro not con lined to
any political party, who havo deolnreu
against the expenditure of public mon
ey for the support of the higher educa
tional Institutions of the stato. To
take the course advocated by them
would stamp tho great and progres

e t possiblo economy, but that they
should not be crippled hy the with
