UOUY SNATCHING.
Oregon lias been remarkably free
from the crime of body snatching.
The rifling of the Latld tomb and
carrying away the remains
of the dead millionaire is a
business proposition for the
perpetrators of the uncanny
deed. They expect a rich reward
and are more likely to gut it than
to be subjected to the punishment
allotted to the crime, the maxi
mum penalty of which three years
imprisonment in the penitentiary.
Grave robbing is a serious offense,
especially when committed with
intent to commit a crimo and
obtain a reward. It is only excus
able when necessity compels medi-
cul colleges to souuro cadavers for
purposes of dissection and practical
instruction in the imtko up of the
human body. While against tho
law, its violation for this purpose is
wiukodat, and it is seldom uny trou
bleonsuos. Tim mon who rob graves
in hope of reward for return of the
remains deserve good long tonus
in the penitentiary. It does not
look possiolo that the perpetrators
of a scheme like this, where several
persons must have been engaged,
cau Ions etoapo detection. The
only thing that would thwart jus-
ti co would be the anxiety of the
relatives of the dead man to socuro
tho romuiiiB without further noto
riety. DKAU GOLD-CHEAP LABOR.
Tho silvor question is the storm
center in the groat battlo for mone
tary reform, that is now boing
waged. AguiiiBt Bilvor, the bond
holders and money and credit mon
gers of tho two continents have
uiado common cause. Against it
are arrayed the owners of the in
debted noes of the world, an amount
oxoosding $150,000,000,000. Thoy
favor the gold Blandard because it
moans Boarco and dear uuoney.
Every fall in the general level of
prices means that they are cor
respondingly enrichod at tho ex
ponso of sooioty.
Dear gold on ono hand; choapor
labor and products of labor on the
other. Can tho musses bo much
logner hoodwiukod into support of
the singlo gold standard?
If there are any veteran eoldiors
who are deserving of ponsiom it it
that surviving body of Indian war
veterans which fought the pioneer
hattlos of our wostorn common
wealth. These mon have grown
old and somo are nearly desti
tute. Their warlare was of tho na
ture that required constant vigilance
and ever presont hardship. Our Ore
gon delegation should press this
affair boforo congress and do all in
its power to get a special bill
through for tho relief of our In
dian war veterans.
A Tounessee circuit judgo in

A slot bicycle for hiring use is an

The Indian medi
cine man cures by
charms and incan
tations. He fright
ens away the " evil
spirit" who causes
the sickness. He
docs all sorts of
things that civilized
people would call
idiotic and barbaric,
but the civilized
folks are not so very
much ahead after
all. They do just
as foolish things as
does the medicine
man. They go along
carelesslv. and al
low the little sickness to grow into the
big sickness. They allow constipation to
grow into indigestion, heartburn, dizzi
ness, headache, insomnia, and a Kindred
other distressing conditions. They do
this frequently because they do not know
the cause of their trouble. It is a pretty
safe rule to look for the source of Q-ioths
of liuman sickness in this one simple and
appallingly jirevnlent trouble. Another
foolish tiling that smart people do is to
take some alleged remedy for constipa
tion and keep on taking it, day after day,
month nfter month and year after year.
Perhaps it is better to tnke the medicine
than not to take it at all, but of course if
they stop taking it, their trouble will
come back. This last statement is true
of every other medicine prepared for this
fmrpose except Dr. Pierce's Pleasant Pel
cts. One " Pellet" is a gentle laxative,

La Grippe
If you have had the Grippe,
you know its aches and pains,
the fever, the chilli, the cough,
the depression you know
them all The Grippe exhausts
the nervous system quickly,
lowers the vitality. "Two
things should te done at once:
the boly must be strength
ened, and force must be given
to the nervous system. God
liver Oil will do the first ? Hy
pophosphites the second. These
are permanently and pleasantly
combined in Scott's Emulsion,
It lifts the despondency and
heals the inflamed membranes
of the throat and lungs.
But you need not have LA
GRIPPE.
You can put your system in
a condition unfavorable to it.
You can have rich, red blood ;
resistive strength steady brain
and nerves. Scott's Emulsion
prevents as well as cures.
And whether you send or go
for Scott's Emulsion, be sure
you get the genuine.
