riage opposite to ine, and we had got into
conversation via the window, which I
pulled down for her, and a magazine, which
I lent her. Bha agrec-d with mu that it wo

stupid. A chance Incident gavo a more
personal turn to the conversation. I took
out my pocketbook to see that my ticket
was sofa and let a letter drop on the floor
of the carriage. The letter waa addressed

it, and she looked at me with a pleased

an earl, and that tho letter was not ad

that's what makes it so hard. How are

my crimes. Tho police, you know. That's

certainly put that in. But you might tell

"No," Bho said, "I am going as maid to
Mrs. Dawson. I was lu service, you know,
before I took to literature, and I generally
