THE PEOPLES PAKTY "PUSH."
An Eastern Oregon exchange
says the Willamette papers of last
week contained resolutions unami
mouuly adopted by the eoples
party stute central committee. The
firt wag iiidnpendbnt political ac
tion, and the lust was what might
have been expected, endorsement
of the legislative hold up. There
was no publio notice of the meeting
printed, and the public and the
populists of the statu never knew
that there was to be a meeting un
til it whb over with and the report
furnished the press by the secretary
was printed. The three national
committeemen for Oregon who are
also members of the Btate central
committee, wore not invited to this
secret meeting. The names of those
present were the same "push" that
camped at Salem last winter and
held up the state and lived higli on
"a fund raieod by enemies of Mit
chell." Thoy slid out of their re
spective neighborhoods on their
free passes and nobody knew their
mission until it whb over.
SILVER UEl'UBLI CANS.
An organization of the Ohio
Silver Repub lican party lias been
effeotod. One of the promoters
says:
''Wo mean business, and if we
cannot get what we want the
recognition of silver from the
Republican party, we will go
where wo can got it. Tho Re
publican party, liko the Domo
oratio party as represented in the
lato administration, has beon led
astray, and I think I see in the
near future an amalgamation of the
gold Domoorats and gold Republi
cans, and the joining of the silver
Demoorats and silver Republicans."
Tho Louisville Courier-Journal
Monday morning contained a sen
sational editorial from Henry Wat
lorsou. He says the Reform Club
of New York, on Saturday night,
started the campaign of 1900 on
behalf of Cleveland, montioning
whose narao now is a reproa'h.
Cleveland has had his day a sad
day for his party. He never effect
ed gonuine reform except for ill.

followers, whose purpose is to Mex
icanize the publio administration,
keeping him in power, like Diaz,
during the term of his natural life.

heretofore secured by Congressman

that way will soon realize that they
havo no member of the committee
on rivers and harbors. The Salem
papers are not shouting thwuselvts

lamette river just now.
The "concert of the powers" in
regard to Turkey and Greece is in
reality a "concert" of tho counting
rooms. Turkey is in debt to Euro
pean fiuancial magnates abouttTCO,

other governmenls.to a great extent,
and eviry effort will be made to
keep the security as good as possi
ble by preventing further spolia
tion of Turkish territory.
Salem hop men are contracting
the coming crop at 8 cents. Wei
advise our hop growers to let theee

are a good price they honor their l
contracts. If a poor price they
leave them on the growers hands.
Millions of bushels of Nebraska
corn lie on the ground where it was
busked and has lain all winter. It
will be destroyed by the spring
rains, and yet it does not pay to

price of 8 cents per buihel.
