SATURDAY, - - JUNE 13. 1896,
Tom Iteed is still a candidate for
the presidency at St. Louis. He
should muzzle his alleged friend
Manly.
Indications point to a larger at
tendance than ever this year at the
commencement exercises of the
University ofOreeon in thisoity.
The Fourth of July committee
is an antive one. Our celebration
is beintt widely advertised all over
the Willamette valley, and this
means that thousands of people
will spend Julv 3rd and 4th in
Eugene.
Chicago Record: "What do yon
thing of the bicycle craze?"
"ureal thine! 1 never took go
much exorcise before in all mv
life." "Why. I didn't know that
you were riding " "I'm not, but
I have to cross tho strent once in i
whilo,"
Salom Journal, Rep.: "Pennoy
er'g head is level. Ho says the
Populists themselves are to blame
for the defeat of Vanderbure. If
' his suggestion had been carried out
Myors and Vanderburg would
have been withdrawn and Waldo
nominated, then Tongue would
have been so badly beaten there
would have been no cry of 'count
ing out.' "
Greator New York has at present
a population of about 3,250,000,
making it the second city in the
world in respoct to numbers,
Should the present rate of growth
be maintained she would have in
1945 a total population of about
10,000,000. The population of the
united cities is now greater than
any of the states, with the excep
tion of New York, Illinois, Ohio
and Pennsylvania.
"Just at the twig is bont tho tree
in inclined," has again been forcibly
illustrated. Miss Maud R. Inger
soil, daughtor of Colonol "Bob"
Ingorsoll, is an unbeliever, like
her Bire, and in a Now York police
court the other day refused to take
the oath on the Bible, saying that
he did not believe in it, and was
allowed to affirm. But she won
her case against a truckman, whom
she charged with ill-treating his
lioruo.
Wa find the following astonish
ing editorial in tho Register
"Pennoycr is as clover an old
rascal as was ever loft outside the
Oregon penitentiary. He may
again out quite a figure in Oregon
politics before many moons.
Sylvester Ponnoyor is an honest
man and tho people of Oregon

mm. llo is blessed with some
crank isms that do not harm the
integrity or honesty of tho man.
It is generally conceded that tho
Chicago convention will bo out and
out for freo Bilvor. Julius Chain
bers, the Washington . correspon
dent of the S. F, Examiner said a
a fow days ago: The administra
tion abandons its money fight and
surrenders tho Chicago convention
lo froe silver. Tho gold democrats
in Washington aro with ono or
two exceptions, administration
men, and tlioy steadfastly refuse to
disouss the situation. Secretary
Carlisle confesses overwhelming do
font. He will not talk for publi
cation, but it is known he is disap
pointed and humiliated. He re-
gards the verdict of Kentucky as
rotiriiig him .to private life. He
said today that if he held a com
mission from the state of Kentucky
ha would promptly resign, but as
he holds office under federal au
thority ho intends to servo out his
term. 1'ho administration based
its contest for sound money on
Carlisle and Kentucky.

In the mutter of the claim for dum
aces by Cliaa I Oorrle for location of

considered the claim for damages of
Charles I Oorrle caused by the local ien
of the H D Edwards road In township

premises, the sume was not allowed
for the reason that said claimant was a
petitioner for the location of said road.
In the matter of the H D Edwards
road in tp 17 and 18s, r2w. At this
time litis matter came on for further
consideration and was read the second
time and having been continued from
the May term, and the claims for
damages having been disallowed, it is
therefore ordered by the court that I lie
prayer of petitioners be allowed and It
is further ordered by the court thut

The Indian medi
cine man cures by
charms ana incan
tations. He fright
ens away the "evil
spirit " who causes
the sickness. He
docs all sorts of
tilings that civilized
people would call
idiotic and barbaric,
but the civilized
folks are not so very
much ahead after
all. They do just
as foolish tilings as
does the medicine
man. They go along
carelessly, and al
low the little sickness to grow into the
big sickness. They allow constipation to
grow into indigestion, heartburn, dizzi
ness, headache, insomnia, and Hundred
other distressing conditions. They do
tins lrenuentlv necause mey no noi Know
the cause of their trouble. It is a pretty
safe rule to look for the source of 9-ioths
of human sickness in this one simple and
appallingly prevalent trouble. Another
foolish tiling that smart people do is to
take some alleged remedy for constipa
tion and keep on taking it, day after day,
month after month and year after year.
Perhaps it is better to take the medicine
than not to take it at all, but of course if
they stop taking it, their trouble will
come back. Tins last statement is true
of every other medicine prepared for this
purpose except ur. fierce rieasam rel
iefs. One " Pellet " is a gentle laxative,
and two a mild catharic. They are gentle
and efficient in their action, permanent
in their results, iou don't become a
slave to their use, as with other pills.
