THE HKAVEXLY TWINS.
Salein Journal. Rep.: "There
is rauoh humor in the present
campaign after all.
"Great heavens and little
breeohes! Frank Paxton and Mr.
Moorhoad of Kansas are held in
the Sunday Oregonian as models
of the last legislature. They were
models of a certain type but it iB
the worst typo the people have to
contend with.
"These men aro held up by the
aid of a lying table of votes on
appropriations as models of ocotn-
omy. The table lies bocause it
toadies false conclusions.
"Paxton has withdrawn on ac
count of ill health. Moorhead
should withdraw or be defeated.
''Paxton worked for a bridge job
at Portland in which he with other
lawyers wore interested. In the
Ways and Means committee he
labored to pack the bill with
enormous olectrio light jobs. He
stood in with a majority of that
oommitteo to load the bill with all
sorts of appropriations and then
voted against whon the electric
light company he represented had
$50,000 in tho bill, becauso ho
thought it would jmi-s anyhow.
Moorhead was conveniently ab-
sont. So thoy made a showing of
not voting for appropriations. Dut
thoy looked out for nil their pri
vato grabs.
"Moorhoad came to Salem a
silver man, opposed 1 1 Simon and
Dolph, was one of 2i to agree to
not go into caucus and not to vote
for Dolph, and between 4 p. m
and 8 p. m. win persuaded to
change his mind and become one
of Dolph'i firmest supporters.
"Moorhead offered half a dozen
resolutions all fraught with ex
ponso to tho state, one job of ro
vising the journals lotting five
persons (all of tho Dolph faction)
gt in from 24 to 28 days each at
$10 a day each, on a job that in
other states ono noun does in from
five to ten days.
"As chairman ol tho committee
on mileage Moorhoad employed a
lady clerk tho whole session to
make up ono littlo table that would
go on a shoet of foolscap and
oould be got up by any man in
half an hour. Thosu aro only

"But more anon of tlm heavenly
twins.
"The greatest outrage mail un
the people of Oregon is tint tins

worse some of tin' members spent
their time com;-.in? u tuble of
votes to hold their own records up
to the skies and disparage, tho
best and honestest men who ever
sat as representatives of the pco
plo of Oregon. The table, cf voles
on appropriation bills, onlv thro
of which bceanio laws, does not
show tho records of tho members
on bills to repeal commissions, and
jute mills, eto. That record was
not wanted. It did not mil IV

THE PASS Ql'liSTlON'.
The infallible ? Or. Driver, the
republican candidate for state fen
ator, denies the charge that he
travels, or has recently traveled on
tho S. P. trains on half fare tickets
procured from the company unde
favors shown his profession as a
minister of the gospel, and pro

saying in self dofenbo that ho quit
preaching seven years ago and that
he has not ridden on a Southern
Pacifio half fare railroad ticket
since that time. This donial of the
absolute positive by a man who
claims to hold tho position for
truth and veracity that Driver does
is indeed surprising, for many
years Dr. Driver has been setting
himself up before the people of
Lane county and the whole state of
Oregon as a fitting example of all
that is moral and good and right
eous. Ho has been picturing the
ideal in rosy terms lor 40 years
and during all that time seemed
what ho was not. The pa6t few
months, Bince he accopted the re-
publican nomination for stato sena
tor, has developed his true char
acter, not already unknown to some,
with wonderfully surprising results
Ho is now having a hard timo of it
crawling out of the holes of i neon
sistency and falsity into which
even the wily Driver has unsus.
pectingly precipitated himself. He
savs he has not ridden on a preach
er's pass. Perhaps tho venerable
doctor has forgotten the little inci
dent of a tew weeks ago when be
wag preparing to go to Koseburg to
deliver a lecture, and forgot to get
his pass before he left the house.
and came into town without it. A
few minutes before train time he
discovered his mistake and, being
unable to get a "half fare ticket
without showing his "pass," he
immediately procured a livery
team and drove with mad haste to
his home in the outskirts of the
city to procure the precious "pass"
making the forced trip just in time
to catch tho train for his destina
tion. You have alwavs held up
truth as your ideal Dr. Driver, but
your practice does not verify your
teaching.
Horbert Condon, tho law partner
of E. O. Potter, republican candi
date for oounty judge, is doing
considerable of tho editorial work
on tho "hired organ." In this
morning's issue of that papor Hon.
E. R. Skipwortb is accused of being
one of the editorial writors on the
Guaud, This is a lie. The editor
of this paper does not permit any
one to diotate or write editorials.
Tho editor of this paper is iu edi
tor in name r.nd fact. 'John Camp-
tell is acouBed of writing for the
liroad-Axe. This is another rank
falsehood as ho has been confined
to ii ib room with serious illness for
two weeks and during that time
has not writton a lino for any
papor. Mr. Condon "tell the truth"
whn writing about editors or your
partner candidate for judge.
"Mr Potter is the man and ho is
going to bo our next county judge."
Law Partner Herbert Condon, in
the Resistor.
