TEACHERS' EXAMINATION.

There Is always a large number of
applicants for teachers' certificates at
the spring examination aud this one
is no exception, in fact the number 1 s
larger tbis spring than usual.
For county teachers' certificates
there are all told 87 applicants 65 la
dies and 22 gentlemen.
For state certificates there are 7 ap
plicants at this time.
There are also 8 applicants for state
diplomas.
Superintendent Stevenson is assisted
in conducting the examination by At
torney J. M. Williams and Miss Mary
E. McCornack, his regular assistants.
The number of applicants is larger at
this time than at the spring examina
tion of 1804.

All persons interested in the organi
zation of a bicycle club are hereby

Another Fire at Silver Lake,
Private letters received state that on
the 4th Inst, the house of Mr. Busick at
Stiver Lake, with its contents, was en
tirely destroyed by fire. Mr. Buslck
was not at home when the Are occur
red. A daughter who was Injured in
the big Christmas fire bad not yet re
covered and another daughter was ill
from exposure at that time. These
were rescued by the family but all their
belongings were lost, leaving them
without shelter and entirely destitute,
Steps were at ouce taken to relieve
their temporary needs. Of those injur
ed in the big fire, Geo. Payne is still
in a very critical condition, Mrs. La
Brie aud others were improving slow
ly, and some bad entirely recovered.

em and also a car load from Albany on
Sunday last. R. H. Westacott is in
strumental in bringing this business to
Salem aud is creating quite a market
for good horses. Persons having horses

energetic young business man, popu
lar and well liked and we can com
