Portland, March 15.—Bearing the marks of one of the most
lel and heartless murders ever perpetrated in this city, the
>dy of little Barbara Holtzman, a five year-old girl, was found

her yesterday, and, although he seemed

loom to see what had become of the lodger. She found the door
locked and the key removed, The fact aroused her suspicion
and the door was burst pen. There, huddled on the bed, al-

jority of the filings have been as­
sailed as. fraudulent. The value of
the known coal deposits of Alaska
has frequently been estimated at one
billion dollars.
Indictments In connection with the
alleged fraudulent coal land tran­
sactions have been returned against
a number of citizens who mad* fil­
ings as the Cunningham claimants,
and whose claims are now before
the interior department on applica­
tion for patent.
It is understood that Fisher is to
devote great energy to untangling
the Alaska coal land situations and
that President Taft will co-operate
heartily with hint. The firsh skirm­
ishes will occur in Seattle, March 20.

El Paso, March 15.—‘ All the United States demands of

Roosevelt today at a breakfast with the Toltre club. The col­

The colonel led up to his observations on the Mexican trou­
ble by saying that the prosperity of his neighbors was a condi­
tion of the prosperity of any man. He declared honest dealing

perity. The same thing is true, he said, of the relation of com­
munities to one another.
