CITY FATHERS
MOTHER SHOT DEAD
BY 9-YEAR-OLD SON
FIGHT'PROPOSED
COUNTY OIVISON
A HAPPY
NEW YEAR.
Corvallis, Or., Dec. 28.—Mra. J. G.
Morris was accidentally shot and
killed at her home one and a half
miles north of th|y city Sunday after
noon. A charge from a shotgun in
the hands of a 9-year-old son, who
did not know the gun was loaded,
severed the large arterly of the right
leg and the woman bled to death Ln
a very short time.
This fatality la the direct result of
the forgetfulness of Mr. Morris, the
victim’s husband, who on returning
from a hunting trip, laid his loaded
gun on the table. The young son.
who, It seems, had often been per
mitted to clean the firearm, picked it
up for tnat purpose. The gun went
off and M tb . Morris, who stood by
the stove, not ten feet distant, re-
celved the full charge.
It is said that Mr. Morris Is all
but Insane over the tragedy. Mrs
Morris was about 48 years of age and
the mother of a family, the majority
of the children being grown.
