ins disclosed a wire, fuse and caps.

and Deputy Sheriff Hammond upon
a warrant from Spokane, Wash.,
charging him with obtaining money
under false pretenses. Deputy Sher­
iff Pugh, of Spokpne. arrived here
last night with the warrant, and he
left on the noon train today with his
prisoner, bound for Spokane, Dever-
eapx having waived extradition.
Devereaux is charged with locating
a number of people on worthless land
after having shown them good tim­
ber land in the vicinity of Spokane, a
woman residing htere having made
th«* complaint against him. He re­
sided there before coming to Eugene
about a year ago. ami the offense is
alleged to hav«* lieen committed be­
fore he cam«* here. He feels confi­
dent that he will be cleared of the
charge. His wile and two children
reside in Eugene.
San Francisco, April 23. The
pros«cution will make a thorough In­
vestigation of the dastardly attempt
to kill ex Supervisor James L. Gal­
lagher at the home of William li.
Schoeck. his brother-in-law, in Oak­
land, last night, when a huge bomb
tore away the whole front of the
house
Gallagher and his wife were
upstairs at the time of the explosion.
Gallagher is one of the most Im­
portant witnesses for the state In
the bribery and graft eases, Involving
Abraham Ruef anil other prominent
people, In an Interview today Fran-
cis J lleney said he was not sur-
prised, and had warned Gallagher
several months ago that they would
"get him."
Ruef Ha Id he regnrdad the attempt
on the life of Gallagher as a dastard­
ly outrage, and expressed the belief
that It was the work of a crank. He
stated that he, too, had received
many anonymous letters threatening
death In various ws.v4 because of hls
attitude against "higher ups."
Only one person Was Injured by the
explosion, a boy hit In the neck by a
flying missile. Gallagher's hat was
pierced by a splinter.
