callers at his office today in the
persons of men who were indicted
by the Federal grand jury in con
nection with the furniture trust.
The callers not only came in per
son but many were represented by
attorneys, while some came in
company with their attorneys,
All were anxious to disclaim
connection with the trust, while
many were on the verge of hys
teria for fear of possible convic
tion for combining to regulate and
maintain prices in the furniture
industry.
Many knew that the
government had a strong case
against them and were ready to
make almost any kind of stipula
tion that would tei.d to mitigate
the penalty they stand in fear of.
