thence south to Eleventh, and from

Douglas, Josephine, Jackson, Coos,
and Curry counties, and from the
camps in each delegates have come,
filling the town with visitors, who
are being treated as the guests of the
whole city us well as of the local
camp. The exact number of dele
gates present will not be known until
tonight, but Is estimated at over 100.
Murphy and Bort.
On this afternoon’» train from the
south National Directors Murphy and
Bort, of the .Modern Woodmen, arriv

and the chief speakers of the meet

The real feature of the convention
will be tonight, for then ft is adver
tised there will be about 200 adop
tions at the Woodman hall, the work
to be done by the Eugene and Cot
tage Grove degree teams. Then, too.
there will be a program of speakers
and a royal banquet for the delegates
and local members and the candi-
dates.
Exercises Tills Afternoon.
At the opening of the exercises in
the park this afternoon Hon. M. A.
Miller, of Linn county, and a regent
of the university, spoke briefly, and
was followed by Director Murphy, of
Kansas, who urged all men who de
sired a good fraternal Insurance or
ganization to Join
the Woodmen.
Bort came next and told of the busi
ness end of the lodge. In the Mod
ern Woodmen there are at the pres
ent time 867,00(1 members, and every
month thousands more are joining.
The athletic contests were then
pulled off. It took the team repre
senting Cottage Grove just one min«
ute to pull the team representing Eu
gene in the tug-of-war contest. Alon
zo Bartlett, of Eugene, captured the
fat man'» race and Walter Pickens,
of Crow, the lean man's race, The
high jump was most exciting, Pick-

The general opinion of the
larger handlers of veal at this time
is that the market will soon show
lower range of values.
The local egg market is firmer on
account of the smaller arrivals and
the very heavy cold storage opera
