The locating of the foundry, like that of the sash and door factory, the bakery and laundry is through the efforts of the Commercial Club and the liberality of our enterpris- Ing cltizens. They have organized with a determined effort to make Springfield the leading manufactur- Ing city In Oregon, and their earnest efforts are meeting me with the desired results. The above mentioned in- ilustries are nr w past the prospective point and are a certaintyi though it takes time to get the affairs arranged so as to start building operations, However, by the time the weather is settled Springfield will be one of the busiest, liveliest and best towns to found in th«' whole state of Ore gon, and all who do not believe that Springfield Is forging to the front should come and Investigate. tinguished without the use of a hose King was taken before Justice of the Peace Smith Tuesday evening and sent on his way rejoicing with out even imposing a fine. This Is indeed a poor example and does not help in the least to better the moral conditions of the community. New Laundry. Direct information comes to us that a first-class laundry will be established in Springfield within the next thirty days. The project will be partly capitalized by one of our leading business men who has had some experience in the laundry busi ness. The field is certainly large enough for a plant of this kind and we predict success to the undertak ing. Another Business Change. The Springfield Provision Compa ny changed hands this morning, the new proprietors being Messrs. Frank Whiteman and Chas. Hardt. Both young men are well known here, hav ing been engaged at the Peoples’ meat market for the past several months. News.
