Their names are not published at the earnest request of their parents, all of whom are highly respectable people of Eugene, One of the beys was arrested by O fleers Croner and Farrington last night and the other three by Chief of Police Stiles and Constable Rowland this forenoon. The specific charge against them is the larc ny of a num ber of carpenters' tools from John McCormick, Guy Davis and Wm. Hammond, well known carpenters. The theft of these articles was com mitted in the latter part of Novemlx-r last and were taken from the new Seavey residence at West Sixth and Lincoln streets ami the new Cht rry residence on Pearl street. After the arrest of the boys the officers visited their homes and found most of the tools stolen. MINED 825 EACH. LIME DISINFECTANT FOR WELLS Several cases of typhoid fever hav- ing appeared at Oregon City, Dr. Carll of Portland, iu the Telegram, sounds a uote of warning to people of lower Willamette river towns that tbeir only absolute safety lies in boil ed water. Here is the doctor's advice us to open wells: 4 “Uus<ak«al lime is an excellent dis infectant, and is better than chloride .f lime and cheaper. People who use wells should throw down a lump as oig aa one's heal at least twice dur ing the season. This will give forth lime water fra few days, but it is not at all injurious, and after that the water w ill lie pure and sweet. The objection to the fiat taste of boiled water can easily lie removed by plac ing the boiled water iu jugs or bot tles. and when the water has cooled the jugs should lie shaken for a few minutes and it will re absorb i i . The jugs should not be mure than naif « r two thirds full.
